Cockatoos have a wide range of sizes, some are small, and some are large. Usually, large-sized cockatoos need a big cage, but in the case of cockatoos, they all need a big cage because they are very energetic and want to move freely. In this article, I will discuss how big a cage does cockatoos need.

Cockatoos are very active parrots, and with their amazingly intelligent brains, they cannot afford to be confined in a small cage. They need a large cage to go from perch to perch and find the best place to see their favorite view. Similarly, they need a big room to stretch and move and have fun playing with toys.

There are some species of cockatoos that are cockatiel, they are small-sized parrots, and they can live in small cages. Similarly, medium-sized cockatoos need a medium to a large cage. Some big species of cockatoos, known as Giant cockatoos, need a big cage in which they can move freely.

There must be a large cage for these parrots because they can not be cooped up in small cages. So, the cockatoo’s cage can be determined by the size of the cockatoos’ body. Let’s discuss how big-sized cages they need for their survival.

Suitable Cages For Cockatoos:

If I talk about suitable cages, the minimum cage size should be 34 to 36 in width and 5 feet in length, and it must be 24 to 26 in its depth. This cage can be suitable for small-sized cockatoos. If I talk about the Good big cages, they are 6 feet in width and 6 feet in depth, and 10 feet in height.

Suitable Cages For Cockatoos

Small cages For Cockatoos:

The smallest breeds of domesticated cockatoo are usually 12 to 14 inches long. These small sized Cockatoos, such as  Goffin’s Cockatoo, Bare Eyed Cockatoo, and Major Mitchells’ Cockatoos, Can survive in small cages.

The most suitable cage for this type of cockatoo is 24-26 inches deep and 36-38 inches wide, and at least 5 feet high. Although they are the smallest of the cockatoos, they are very lively and dynamic. They can live in small cages and will benefit from even larger cages.

Medium Cages For Cockatoos:

Medium-sized cockatoos have sizes of about 14 to 15 inches, such as the size citron cockatoos which are known as Lesser sulphur crested cockatoos, and Elenora cockatoos which are also known as medium sulphur crested cockatoos.

A slightly larger cage than the one suitable for small cockatoos should be used for these medium-sized cockatoos. A medium-sized cockatoo requires a cage that is at least 29 inches deep, 46 inches wide, and 6 feet long.

Big Cages For Cockatoos:

Some species of cockatoo have larger sizes and larger wings. They are sometimes over 26 inches long, and large cockatoos only need large cages to accommodate their size. They should also have enough space in the cage to move from one perch to another.

Larger cockatoos such as Moluccan Cockatoo, Umbrella Cockatoo, and Greater Sulphur Crested Cockatoo should have a cage that is at least 30-36 inches deep, 48 inches wide, and 6 feet high. These large birds like to climb up and down and move around their cage and are very satisfied when they can exercise a lot.

They need large cages or rooms in which they can open their wings and move freely. These species of cockatoos, with their large size bodies and wings, can not adjust themselves in small cages, and they lose their ability to spread wings.

For their complete survival, it is very necessary to put them in rooms or large cages in which they can move freely and open their wings easily.

Too Big Cage For Cockatoos:

Cockatoos can survive in small, medium, and big cages according to their sizes, but bigger cages would be very better for their survival. These beautiful parrots can live in normal cages as other parrots do, but in this way, they can lose their fitness and ability to move their wings freely.

Big cages are a bit more expensive than normal ones, but this is the requirement of your feathered fellow. Cockatoos need extra features and equipment in their place of living. So, if it’s a cage, then it must be fully equipped.

Too Big Cage For Cockatoos

They need some perches to move from one to another and some pots and tiny wooden houses in which they can hide themselves during sleep hours. Their cage must be of the ideal size in which these parrots are able to open and move their wings because their wing exercise is very necessary for their health

There are some people who can not afford big cages then it would be better to spare one room and place your cockatoo there. If you have a small cage, it can be ok for your pet, but it should be upgraded because the larger the cage, the happier the cockatoo is.

Cockatoos’ Cage should Accommodate Several Things in it:

There are several things that are the basic requirements of these pets in the cage. Perches and some assistance are very necessary for cockatoos to move easily. There must be some stands, slides, pots and wooden boxes, and toys.

Perches and Stands in Cage:

Cockatoos need perches, stands, and some slides because they are growing cockatoos, and they need these supporting perches. These Perches and stands are essential for their proper movement and health of wings.

Perches are important for making Cockatoos easier to move from one side to another. They are placed in cockatoos’ cages to provide the perfect and comfortable atmosphere. Because in captivity, there are no trees in which they can climb up and down.

Stands are important because they help parrots swing, exercise, and move easily. These things must be placed in their cage because it is very important for their survival in the cage. Proper movement and exercise are very important because they gain weight if they do not move properly.

Wooden Boxes and Toys In Cockatoos Cage:

Small wooden houses and toys are essential to keep Cocato’s mind busy. Cardboard toys and chewing toys really help to satisfy parrots. It would be better to give them soft and attractive toys.

Otherwise, they will try to chew things around them. Puzzle Toys are also a good option to keep baby Cockatoos busy. These toys will keep your pet active and healthy. By playing with these toys, you can see that your cockatoo will respond to you faster.

Toys are used very effectively during bird training and training sessions. Biologists have found that the way to play with cockatoos is to increase their mental development and performance.

Similarly, wooden boxes are also very important because they become aggressive when they want to chew something. So, by chewing wooden boxes, they can satisfy themselves.

So, the Cockatoos cage should be that big in which this equipment can be accommodated along with the cockatoo. These things are very important for your pet; big, and with these accessories, they can survive in the cage.

Conclusion:

Cockatoos’ cages can be of the ideal size for their survival; big cages are recommended for them. They need plenty of space because they are active and energetic parrots, and they want to move here and there. These parrots can live in small cages, but they can not fit in a congested environment. So, you can place them in a standard cage but upgrade them when it’s easy.
