Cockatoos are very affectionate and social parrots, and they really like to interact with their owners. These parrots are very graceful in their acts and appearance, and they mimic their caretakers. They try to copy what their owners are saying. In this article, I will discuss whether these parrots know what they are saying. 

Sometimes cockatoos can understand what they are saying, and some cockatoos just mimic their owners. Professionally trained cockatoos can learn the ability to understand their words. Some cockatoos just memorize the phrase and carry on repeating it without being familiar with its meaning.

Sometimes, when cockatoos know what they are saying by observing deeply the actions of their caretakers. But usually they do not know they just repeat those words which are said by their owners.

Cockatoos’ ability to mimic and understand their speech depends on the training given by their owners. Basically, cockatoos have the ability to learn and mimic human vocalizations, but they can not be processed unless they get tamed. 

Humans can not learn the language of parrots, including cockatoos, but they can learn human language. You can train them by speaking words and performing actions; in this way, they can learn about the word and its meaning. After they get trained, they will understand the meaning of their own words they will utter. 

So, naturally, cockatoos do not understand what they are saying, but they can understand with the efforts of their owners.
