My cockatoo gets excited whenever he sees me eating grapes. But I wasn’t sure if I can feed him grapes and gape-seeds or not. I did some research and here is what I found:

Cockatoos can eat grapes and their seeds. Grapes contain certain essential vitamins and proteins that keep cockatoos healthy. Grape juice is also good for them.

Are Grapes Good for Cockatoo Health?

Grapes are good for cockatoos. Grapes contain vitamins, minerals, protein, fiber, and antioxidants which are beneficial for cockatoo health.

  • The antioxidants present in grapes protect them against harmful cancerous cells and inflammation and
  • The essential nutrients present in grapes can slow down their aging and increase lifespan. 
  • Grapes reduce cholesterol levels, maintain blood pressure and keep the digestive system healthy.

Grapes can be Unhealthy

Since grapes contain high levels of fructose, and excessive consumption of fructose can be harmful to cockatoos. Besides, grapes are often contaminated with toxic pesticides. These pesticides can kill cockatoos.

Can Baby Cockatoos Also Eat Grapes?

Yes, baby cockatoos can also eat grapes. But they should be fed only 2-3 grapes, twice a week. You can feed them 2 tablespoons of grape juice twice a week.

How to Serve Grapes to Cockatoos?

If you want to serve grapes to your cockatoo, prefer serving organic grapes that are grown without pesticides. Anyways, before serving grapes to your cockatoo, always wash them thoroughly.

Cockatoos like grapes to an extent that if you serve them with other fruits, cockatoos will take grapes and leave other fruits. It seems funny, but it can cause severe deficiencies in your cockatoos. So always feed grapes in less quantity to ensure they eat other fruits too.

Never feed your cockatoo any more than 5 grapes twice a week.
