Building a cockatoos’ cage is a very exciting task; it involves a few steps. First of all, you have to measure the size of your desired cockatoo parrot, and then you can purchase the required material from the shop. Wooden boards, mesh wires, sharp cutters, and nails are mandatory items that you need for cage building.

In order to embellish a cage for your cockatoos, water pots, perches, stands, and dishes are the required things. These things are very important for their survival in a cage. These are required materials for building a  cage for your pet. Let’s discuss these steps in detail.

Material Required For Building cockatoos Cage:

In order to build a cage for cockatoos, you need to purchase some materials from a shop. First of all, you need a meter stick in order to take the measurement of your pet for the correct size of the cage. There must be wire which is made of steel because other wires can be destroyed by rust and other substances which may not be suitable for the cage.

Mesh sheets and nails are also very necessary for creating a cage. Pieces of wood cover the boundaries of the frames. You can also need one large wooden board, which you will place under the cage because it will give support to the base of the cage. For the decoration purpose of the cage, you need water pots, dishes, perches, and stands.

Building of Cockatoos cage:

Cockatoos are very active parrots, and they need plenty of space in order to move freely. Some people think that small cages can be suitable for them, but it is not true even small cockatoos become happier in big cages. They need a wide area in order to fly and open their wings.

So, in the creation of cockatoos cages, you have to determine the actual size of your pet and then build their cage bigger than their size. Because they are active parrots and they need plenty of space. In the creation of their cages, a few steps are mandatory. Let’s discuss them in detail.

Step No.1: Determine Cockatoos’ cage size:

At the beginning of creating a suitable cage for your cockatoos, it is necessary to measure the size of your pet and then decide the actual measurement of their cage. Their cage must be bigger than the size of a cockatoos body.

The size of the cage must be according to the numbers of the parrots and their body size. If you have to place 2 to 3 cockatoos, their size must be double that of their actual size. Small-sized cockatoos can survive in 24 inches cages, and medium parrots can live in 35 inches cages.

Large parrots need plenty of space, but in cages, they need 60 inches, and if you give them room, it will be more convenient for their survival.

Step No. 2 Draw the structure of the cage on paper:

Before building a cage for your cockatoos, always draw its dimension over the paper. You can draw and write the actual measurements of the wooden frames. Moreover, the cage’s visual sketch will help you know about the actual structure of their cage. This structure will help you to know about the dimensions and place the door on the correct side.

Step No. 3 Select The Appropriate Wire:

Selection of appropriate wire is very necessary, and cockatoos have the basic instinct of chewing wires. So, in order to avoid these issues, you have to select the wire, which must be 0.22 mm thick. The wire must be made of steel; always avoid soft and rubber stuff in the cage because cockatoos will chew the wires. Attach the frames with the help of wires and adjust the correct spaces between them.

Step No. 4 Required Materials for Building Cage:

Always use the material which is not toxic and has no harmful substance because cockatoos are very sensitive. For the building of the cage, stainless steel wires are good, but in the market, they add zinc powder for protection from rust; this chemical is very harmful to cockatoos’ health. That is why it must be avoided. You need six stainless steel wires to mesh sheets to make boundaries and the whole cage infrastructure.

For the fixing of wires, you need at least 100 staple nails. For the boundary purpose, you need untreated raw wood that will be used to making the cage’s support. Wood must be untreated so that it can be cut properly in the required shape.

Step No. 5 Create the Frame and Fix in the cage:

Create frames for the proper fixation of cage boundaries. You will need to take four pieces of wood of the same size and use nails to attach them to a square frame in the cage. To make a strong frame, use wood that is at least 2 inches (5.1 cm) wide, and it should be incurable wood.

This helps to ensure that the cage is maintained if knocked on. It will make a square cage, and it should be 6 in the pulpit. If you want to make a rectangular cage, use two long pieces of wood and two small pieces of wood to make the frame. Make sure the nails are entirely attached to the wood so that no one scratches them.

Step No. 6 Create the door in the mid of The Cage:

After fixing all the frames with mesh wire sheets, cut a 10 cm square-shaped hole in the mid of the cage. This will be the door of the cage by which foods and water pots will be placed in the cage. You can increase or decrease the size of the door according to the cage that you have built.

Conclusion:

Building a cage for a cockatoo is a very interesting and exciting task. You have to consider the above-mentioned steps in order to create an accurate cage for your feathered friend. Their cages must be bigger than their actual size because they need plenty of space in order to move freely. Moreover, it is also necessary for their health and wings because if they do not open the wings, they feel sick, and it can cause many health issues to them.
